ARTIST Debbie Curtin
Debbie Curtin is an artist and writer who is always redefining herself through an endless variety of art styles and writing opportunities. She has never been one to be pigeonholed into one category. If anyone asked her what kind of art she does she couldn’t give them a simple answer by saying something like, “I’m a water colorist or a sculptor”. It would depend on whatever she was doing at the moment. If that sounds like someone who was not serious or organized then that would be one person’s opinion. Her thoughts on that would be that she is serious and organized in her own way. Debbie has achieved much over the years by taking chances and going the extra mile. She has always been one to stay current and allows herself to take an art class, a writing course or workshop now and then. She involves herself through several non-profits that use the arts to bring awareness into the community of the benefit of art for the greater good. She looks for opportunities to put herself ‘out there’ to try new things. One area of art expression Debbie was introduced to about eight years ago was mural art. As part of a non-profit group to bring more positive energy to a troubled neighborhood she began with others to add the art part to the area. She began to paint positive murals to offset the negative side of graffiti that has invaded most inner cities. “I didn’t know how to paint on barn doors, garage doors or on the side of a brick building until I was challenged to pick up a brush and do it. My motto is: Never say ‘I can’t’ because then you won’t and you’ll never know until you try.”
Debbie Curtin’s baseball artwork at the Northeast Delta Dental Stadium home of the NH Fisher Cats is available for purchase or through commission. The possibilities that she is able to achieve are endless. If you can think it she is sure it can be done.
